Meet Miss Katy

Greetings!

Thank you for your interest in my school of play.  I have been a licensed Child Care Provider within the Municipality of Anchorage since 2004 when I started with Nana Katy's Child Care.  I was born in 1975 and come from a long line of pioneering Alaskans. I have lived in several regions of AK and love Southcentral the most. I am married and have two children.  Prior to working with children, I have also worked as an Executive Administrative Assistant for 5 years assisting the President and Executive Directors of two large Alaskan companies.  After giving birth and staying home with my second child for a year I knew I wanted a career change.  I researched the option to use our two bedroom rental apartment next to my house as a licensed child care facility.  After gutting, painting, new flooring, the works - I began the journey of creating what I believe is a parents dream, and my clients agree!  Please read my Philosophy page to learn more.

Experience & Education

I graduated from West High Class of 1993.  Continued on to graduate from the Career Academy in 1994. Currently I have over 700 hours of professional training in Early Child Development accumulated over the past 17 years.  I have completed the training for a Child Development Associates Certification(CDA).  In addition to annual training, I have also participated for two years in Strengthening Families. This "Strengthening Families" program is an approach to build Protective Factors around children by supporting family strengths and resiliency.  I am currently a Level 2 (highest level available at this time) with the state's Quality Recognition Improvement Scale (QRIS) and was selected to participate in the trial cohort to develop Level 3-5.  I support continued education and the ability to apply it to the children and families that I work with.

 In the Community

Alaska Family Child Care Association (AFCCA) - A non-profit that supports Early Care and Education by promoting and developing quality professional home based child care.

I served on the Board of Directors for three years as Vice President and Membership Chair. Effectively worked with others to re-established the Association and it's key role with licensed home providers. Partnering with local agencies such as Thread, Best Beginings, Municipality Licensing and ASD in providing training needs, annual conference and connectivity within the child care and early education community.

I currently serve as President of the Association and enjoy teaching classes, coordinating our Annual Child Care Conference and maintaing a professional and productive Board of Directors in our goals to support licensed home providers and early educators.

In addition, I serve on the Professional Development Committee which is a collection of all the Alaska stakeholders in the field of Early Child Care and Education.  This committee is dedicated to advancing the needs and recognition towards promoting quality care, education and professional advancement.
